Hi JJA

The test I referred to was part of a study of the baseball swing we conducted at U of CA (San Bernardino) using their newly acquired Motion Studies Computer. The computer produced data from an array of 4 position motion detectors, pressure sensors and high-speed cameras. Sensor points (looked like miniature Ping-Pong balls) were placed at each joint of the batter's body along with the bat's knob and bat-head. The linear velocity and angular displacement rate for any limb (or joint) and bat could be analyzed for any point of the swing. - This equipment is similar to that used by ZIG for his study.

The pressure sensor pads were not designed to be wrapped around a bat handle. They were designed for studying foot pressure distribution in dance, running and walking. The pads we used were 4 by 14 inches and 3/8 inch thick. This size and thickness made it difficult to obtain precise readings especially for angular bat displacements greater than 30-degree segments. However, the readings clearly support my earlier statement.

PS -- I read your post on Shawn's site regarding linear momentum and rotational energy. Believe it or not, JJA and Jack Mankin are in agreement. I was in the process of writing a post on that very topic. However, you have stolen most of its thunder.

Jack Mankin
