Hi Jack

If you watch closely you will see that the front hip does not rotate back as far as the front hip rotates back because if this was the absolute truth the body motion would be going backwards due to the tilt of the upper body during the swing. Therefor the bat would be decelerating due to the mass of the lower body puling backwards the the lower massed upper body going forwards.

IMHO the lower body (hips and back leg) are going driving forward while the shoulders and torso are rotating (around the spine) and the head is remaining still. Hence the reason it is so hard to master the most effectice swing as the three segments of your body are doing three different motions.

A drill that I have students do is have their back foot on a short step (4-6 inches high) while the front foot is on the ground. The payer must now stride, turn their hips and get thier foot off the step before contacting the ball. With only a couple exceptions in the past 2 months every student hit the ball harder coming off the step then they do but staying on the step (sometimes as much as 6MPH). Lower leg drive combined with hip and shoulder rotation appears to be the reason for this.

I would really like to test this at Skill Technologies with thier equipment but i will have to wait until I can get down to Phoenix,
